How does a Sak Yant session work?
A Sak Yant session is much more than just a tattoo — it's a sacred ritual with deep spiritual meaning. Read our full guide on what Sak Yant is.
1. Intake & consultation
We start with a personal conversation about your intention, wishes and expectations. Together we choose the design that suits you best. This can be done in advance via WhatsApp or on the spot.
2. Preparation & blessing
The session begins with a traditional blessing and chanting of mantras. This activates the spiritual power of the design. Read more about proper preparation.
3. The tattooing
The Sak Yant is applied using the traditional bamboo or steel rod technique (hand-poke). It feels different from a machine tattoo — most people find it manageable.
4. Closing & aftercare
After tattooing, a closing prayer follows. You'll receive aftercare instructions and the 5 Sila (precepts) that maintain the power of your Sak Yant.
Hygiene & safety
Your safety and health always come first. We work according to the strictest hygiene standards:
Sterile equipment — All needles and rods are new and disposed of after each session. Equipment is never reused.
Professional ink — We exclusively use high-quality, dermatologically tested tattoo ink that meets EU regulations.
Clean workspace — The tattoo room is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before and after each session.
Gloves & protection — Medical gloves are worn throughout the entire process and all surfaces are covered.

Frequently asked questions
Does a Sak Yant hurt?
Pain experience varies per person and body part. Generally, the traditional hand-poke technique is considered less painful than a machine tattoo. Most people describe it as a light pricking or scratching sensation.
How long does a session take?
Allow 1.5 to 3 hours for a complete session, including intake, ritual and the actual tattooing. A smaller design may be quicker, a large back piece may take longer.
Can I choose my own design?
Yes, you can choose from our collection of traditional designs. Each design has a specific meaning and power. During the intake we help you choose the design that best matches your intention. View all designs.
Are there rules after getting a Sak Yant?
Yes, traditionally the 5 Sila (precepts) are given. These are guidelines that maintain the spiritual power of your Sak Yant, such as not killing, not stealing, not lying, no substance abuse and no sexual misconduct. You'll also receive aftercare instructions for healing.
Do I need to make a deposit?
Yes, to reserve your spot we ask for a €50 deposit. This amount is deducted from the total session cost. If you cancel more than 48 hours in advance, you'll receive your deposit back.
Can I get multiple Sak Yants?
Absolutely! Many people build a collection over time. Traditionally, it's recommended to start with the Gao Yord as a foundation and then expand. Multiple Sak Yants in one session is possible depending on size.
What if I'm allergic to ink?
We use high-quality, hypoallergenic tattoo ink. If you have known allergies, let us know in advance. We can do a patch test if needed. When in doubt, we always recommend consulting a doctor first.
Should I come sober?
We ask you not to drink alcohol for at least 24 hours before the session and to avoid blood thinners. Eat well before coming and bring water. A sober body responds better and the skin bleeds less.
