Bua Hah Taew
Red Lotus on Five Lines
Five vertical mantra lines with spires above and below, the middle one in red, with a large red lotus across the centre.
✦Meaning & Background
Five vertical lines of Khom script, closed off with spires above and below, the middle one in red ink. Across the centre lies a large, open lotus in red lines that interrupts the three middle lines. In the tradition five lines refer to the Hah Taew and the lotus stands for purity and growth, and here the red middle line ties the flower to the mantra.
✦More about this design
Five lines is the count of the Hah Taew. This design keeps those five lines, sets the middle one in red and lays a large red lotus across them. The two outer lines run on undisturbed, while the three middle ones make way for the flower and continue beneath it. The site already has a Lotus with Five Mantra Lines, but there the lotus is small and black, a flower among the script. Here it is the other way round: the lotus is the first thing you see and the script forms the frame. The difference with the Red Lotus with Five Spires is just as clear. There everything is red, here red only marks the axis, from the middle line to the flower. A lotus on a vertical axis, but with an eight-rayed star and a looped star above it, can be found in the Lotus with Eight Directions and Mantra Lines. Because the five lines run from top to bottom, this design sits well on the upper back between the shoulder blades, where the lotus falls on the centre line of the back. The combination of red and black ink is something to discuss beforehand. Browse all Sak Yant designs, read about all Sak Yant symbols or book an appointment.
✦Frequently asked questions
Is this a Hah Taew?
It follows the five lines of the Hah Taew, but the classic version consists of script only. Here a large red lotus lies across them and the middle line is set in red.
How does it differ from the Lotus with Five Mantra Lines?
There the lotus is small and black, embedded in the script. Here the lotus is large and red and forms the centrepiece, with the script as its frame.
Why is only the middle line red?
That way a red axis runs through the design, from the spires at the top to the spires at the bottom, with the lotus on it. Flower and mantra share the same colour and the same line.
