Paed Tidt means eight directions: protection working at once towards north, northeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west and northwest. In this version the heart holds a square grid of sixteen Khom syllables, ringed by concentric bands of script and eight projecting points.

The Paed Tidt is one of the best known protection designs in the Sak Yant tradition. Eight points, eight compass directions, protection that leaves no side open. This version adds something: at the centre sits a square of sixteen syllables, laid out as a four by four grid. Such a syllable square is an old form within the yantra tradition, in which syllables are placed together in fixed positions. You see the idea return in the centre panel of the twin tigers with temple yantra and in the large geometric yantra. The Paed Tidt is often combined with the Gao Yord as a foundation and the Hah Taew for the five lines, together the classic trio.
